Behind Pathfinder Panama and Bacpakr Productions

Yikes, it's been a while since I have posted. Looks like the last one was a little over 2 months ago! Only 4 posts in and I'm gone for 2 months. Well, I'm back.

Where have I been? That's a good question. I added another project to the list of things that I am doing with Bacpakr Productions. I have started a YouTube channel!

Stepping Out.

I have been writing about stepping out of one's comfort zone. I even have some examples of times in my life that I have done just that. How I felt at the beginning and how I felt after.

This was another one of those instances. I have lots of videos that need to be edited. Which is a part of the reason why I started Bacpakr Productions. I have had an idea for just about every video that I shot however, I haven't sat down to edit them. Originally they weren't shot to be shared with others. Especially not on a large scale. With the explosion of YT videos and the Covid Pandemic that changed.

I didn't even like YT prior to the Covid Pandemic. I would listen to music on it however, I rarely watched videos on it. I can't stand the promotional breaks! Yet I don't think it's worth paying for.

During the quarantine I started watching videos. Many were adventure short films on Outside Magazine's webpage outsideonline.com. Some of those videos have their own production house with more videos on YT. That's when the algorithm started throwing more film shorts my way. Some folks might recall that I even started a short film show on my Pathfinder Panama FB page called Friday Nite Flix. To really step out of my comfort zone I could have posted on my personal FB page where there's more folks. However, I didn't do it.

Around the same time I started watching YT videos about cameras. Especially this one dude, Zeek, and his Canon EOS M. He made fantastic videos from a little outdated camera and a firmware add-on called Magic Lantern. Soon I was purchasing camera gear from second hand online camera shops and eventually Amazon. Plan A was to build the camera rig without using Amazon.

That turned out to be harder than I thought so I gave in. Once that was done I started adding items around my laptop and building a mini studio in my mom's attic.

I shot a bunch of things around the house. I even started taking the camera with me on walks around the neighborhood. Which is where the idea for My Backyard Classroom and The Canon EOS M project came from. Neither was posted on my personal FB page. My Backyard Classroom was posted on the Pathfinder Panama FB page. Why not post to my personal FB page? That was stepping a little too far out of my comfort zone. First, I had been avoiding FB for a while due to its toxicity. I tried to eliminate my personal account and just stick with my business account however, FB doesn't allow you to do that. So instead I just ignored my personal account and focused on my business one. Which I really didn't post much on.

The second reason is that I was a bit scared to post on my personal account. I had never posted a video that I have made on social media. I wasn't sure if anyone would even watch, and if so, what they would say, if anything. It's easier for me to do things for the first time, or where there is a possibility of messing up, in front of strangers than folks that I do know.

Results...

I really enjoyed making the Friday Nite Flix show. I loved watching the videos posted by others and sharing them.

That pandemic project led to another one that was called My Backyard Classroom. Which was posted on my Pathfinder Panama webpage. A couple folks who did see those episodes did reach out to me about them. Thanks for the positive feedback! I enjoyed making those videos as well. They are no longer on my Pathfinder Panama webpage however, will be on the YT channel as soon as I finish the current project. I also have ideas for a season 2. Stay tuned for that.

Since things did not always go as planned an idea for a third pandemic project was born. This one has yet to be edited however, it will be on the YT channel someday. It never really got off the ground because I started working again and put the pandemic projects to the side.

My 2 month absence from writing this blog is due to the start of the Bacpakr Productions YT channel and an idea which came to me while I was sitting with folks who are soccer/football fans yet didn't know about this year's World Cup that was soon to start.

Desde Las Gradas, is a short show that followed the Australia/New Zealand World Cup this past July, and August. To challenge myself a bit more the show was only done in Spanish. This took double the amount of time that it takes me to put together a show in English. It can be seen on YT. There are some post World Cup episodes that have yet to be edited and will be added soon.

If you have made it to this point...thank you!! You can catch all the action at https://www.youtube.com/@BacpakrProductions
