Behind Pathfinder and Bacpakr Productions

Yikes, this has turned into a once in a while blog vs a once a week blog. Well, I'm here to add another entry and will keep working on being more consistent. Maybe I'll have to try to write once a month, then every 2 weeks. If I can accomplish that then move into the once a week deal.

Last month I started a new program. It's a group bike ride for girls. At the moment it's only for those ages 10-12 however, the goal is to open it up for more age groups.

From the first time that I went mountain biking I loved it! I even made mountain biking videos, however, GoPro didn't exist yet so I was carrying a clunky camcorder along with me. It was a bit awkward and didn't make for good videos. You can check out my fist attempt on my YouTube channel Bacpakr Productions. The mountain biking series is called Shifting Gears. It can be found at https://youtu.be/3aQWRKM0CRY

It wasn't until I started working at YMCA Camp Greenville's summer camp that I started to lead mtb trips as part of their adventure program.  2-3 days overnight camping trips that included canoeing, hiking, whitewater rafting (outfitter led) and mountain biking! Still to this day one of my favorite things that I have done.

I have always had a bike in my life. Starting with a second hand little bike, to a banana seat big handlebar bike, to a bmx, to a 10 speed, to a mountain bike, ok, several mountain bikes. I love riding bikes!

I was introduced to mountain biking In college by some friends. We would get together and hit the trails around campus. I loved being able to step out from my front door and hit trails. Hopefully someday I will be able to do that again.

Besides riding with friends I love taking folks out on rides.  I love hearing participants hoot and holler about how much fun they are having as we head down some cool trail. When I lived in Charlotte I volunteered for a non profit called Trips for kids. We would take inner city kids out on trails in and around Charlotte every Saturday. At the end of the season we would spend a weekend in the Georgia Mountains riding trails there. It was good fun.

While I do see more girls and women out on mountain bikes the sport can still use more of us out on the trails. Spring of '23 I participated in an all women's mtb festival. It was really cool! I have never seen so many women out on mountain bikes. Women came from all over the US to participate in 3 days of riding. Thanks again to the folks at Roam Fest for setting that up and to all of the sponsors who were a part of that party. There's a video about that on my YT channel as well. You can check it out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjEScs85UkE

Subscribe to the channel so you don't miss any videos that I post.

If you are in Panama come out and join me on the trails, for a ride in the neighborhood (CDS, Clayton, Cardenas, and Los Rios), out on the causeway, or the CC3. Check out Joyride on Tuesdays and Thursdays in July in the City of Knowledge.  Do you know of a girl between the ages of 10 and 12 who would like to meet other cool chicks, go on bike rides and have fun. Hit me up and sign her up for Joyride!

If you have made it this far...thank you!!  Until next time. Peace.
